  • Are you an experienced dairy farmer looking to reduce your time ‘in the shed?’
  • Want an interesting role with lots of variety that keeps you close to dairy but is a business that’s so much more?
  • Do you take real pride in a job well done and ownership of ‘your’ farm?

Our clients have a substantial farming business that includes a dairy farm, two support blocks, and a brood mare stud.  They have a Contract Milker in place on the dairy farm and are looking for an experienced farmer to take on their support blocks and young stock.

But this role doesn’t stop at just rearing great calves, R1s, R2s and beefies…  this role is that and so much more.

We asked if you wanted variety – so how’s this?

  • There are ongoing development projects on two support blocks, so on any given day you could be overseeing or getting in the mix of these – so you need to be practical and smart
  • The Contract Milker needs a relief milker from time to time, so you will be milking sometimes – so clearly you need to be able to handle yourself in the shed
  • In addition, over calving when they’re busy on the dairy farm, your day will include supporting them with feeding out – so you need to be experienced with a tractor and feeding out
  • Pasture management is key on the horse stud, they have plenty of ‘horsy’ expertise, but your expertise in pasture management is what they’re after – no horse experience needed, just good stock sense and the ability to grow grass

You will be interacting with senior people in the business, and from time to time they will have competing priorities – so you need to have the maturity to understand where the buck actually stops and how to manage this.

It is a position of independence and responsibility, and our client will rely on you a lot.  As well as having the right set of skills you need to be self-motivated, reliable, have high levels of integrity and a strong work ethic.  It goes without saying that you need to be able to work in NZ, have a full, clean driver’s license, and be drug free.

Sound interesting?  We certainly think so!  On offer is a new two bedroom house with a large deck, a location that offers proximity to Hamilton and easy commutes to Tauranga  and Auckland.  And needless to say, if you make the right impression this is a business where the right people achieve their career and personal goals.
